Release Notes — Updates

Built to evolve. Every update documented.

v1.3October 15, 2026
  • New: Diffusion — Light diffusion with four characters. Mist is subtle and clean. Soft is gentle and smooth. Cinematic is wider and more atmospheric. Dream lifts the blacks for a heavier glow.
  • New: Grain — Film grain built from real 35mm scans. Shape where it lands with Shadows, Midtones and Highlights, soften or sharpen it with Roughness, and choose between monochrome and color grain with Saturation.
  • Improvements and optimization: Better performance and stability, with smoother playback and more reliable renders, even on long timelines and heavy node trees.
v1.2October 1, 2026
  • New: Split Toning — A new section for independent color tinting of shadows and highlights, with dedicated hue and reach controls for each, plus a Balance control to shift where the split happens. The kind of two-tone character found in cross-processed film and classic print timing.
  • New: Acutance — A new microcontrast and edge-definition section, modeled after darkroom acutance development rather than digital sharpening. Two processing modes: Fine, for a subtle, clean lift in detail, and Contour, which pushes that same character further for a more textured look.
  • Improvements and optimization: Halation rendering is now roughly 22% faster on export, with no change to visual output.
  • Improvements and optimization: Resolved a memory-management issue that could cause instability during very long export sessions.
v1.1September 13, 2026
  • New: Halation — A new physically-based Halation section has been added to the pipeline, simulating the way light scatters back through the film base during exposure — the same soft, warm glow you see around bright highlights on real film.
  • Halation includes a nested Resolution sub-section, developed to soften digital footage and take the edge off its clarity, so it blends naturally into the texture of the Halation glow.
  • New: 4 Negative Film Stocks — The Negative stock library grows from 6 to 10 profiles: Kodak Vision3 50D (the finest-grain daylight stock in the Vision3 line), Kodak Vision3 200T (a mid-speed tungsten option), ORWO Wolfen UN54 (a classic East German black & white cine negative), ORWO Wolfen NC500 (a classic East German color negative).
  • Improvements and optimization: Optimized GPU memory handling and internal plugin processing, improving smoothness and performance when adjusting controls in real time and during export.

v1.1October 15, 2026
  • New: Bleach Bypass — Simulates silver retention, the photochemical process that adds contrast and pulls back saturation. One Bleach Bypass control with Blend to mix the effect in.
  • Improvements and optimization: Cleaner, more focused interface. Lite now presents a streamlined set of controls designed for a faster, more intuitive workflow.
v1.0August 14, 2026
  • Initial release of Colorboy Lite for DaVinci Resolve.
